5 Remote Vacation Adventures That Will Knock Your Socks Off

March 25, 2021 / by Andrew / Leave a Comment

Do you dream of adventuring to far-flung destinations well off the tourist trail where you can dive into untouched waters and tread on secluded trails?

As high-rise hotels pop up on beaches around the world and small towns turn into tourist hubs, remote vacations become harder to find.

Check out these five vacation adventures that will have you feeling like a pioneer in unexplored lands.

1. The Blue Eye, Albania

In the middle of nowhere in southern Albania, you’ll find one of the most beautiful remote destinations. This natural phenomenon is a natural spring with water so blue that the color is almost ethereal.

Surrounded by dense forest that works to enhance the turquoise waters it’s simply stunning. The 160-foot deep natural pool boasts such clear water that you can see straight to the bottom.

This is a remote adventure that should be on every intrepid traveler’s bucket list. You’ll have to figure out the journey there, which includes asking a bus driver to stop on the side of the road and a dusty walk on a quiet trail.

2. Dynjandi Waterfall, Iceland

A country of fairy-tales and mysticism, Iceland has no shortage of destinations for remote vacations. Skip out on the tourist trail at Gullfoss and rather head to the Dynjandi waterfall. It’s one of the biggest in Iceland and is sure to take your breath away.

The thundering and powerful falls are located in the remote Westfjords of Iceland. The falls cascade down 328 feet and resemble a bride’s veil. It’s a 15 minute, very rewarding hike to the falls.

3. Rape Nui National Park, Easter Island

Easter Island is a mystical place that’s a perfect destination for going for adventures to secluded corners of the world. A trip to this remote UNESCO World Heritage Site will reward you with the pristine treasures of Polynesian culture.

As one of the most remote islands on earth, if you’re looking to get off the beaten path, there’s no better spot to do so. You’ll see the 887 moai statutes as well as explore the natural splendor.

4. Tuamotu Islands, French Polynesia

Are you searching for fun travels to paradise beaches that don’t include maddening tourist crowds, high-rise hotels, and a resort culture? The Tuamotu archipelago is made of 78 coral reefs that are remote enough that tourism has yet to spoil them.

Expect to find a local economy that thrives off fishing, coconuts, and plenty of black pearls. This untouched jewel of French Polynesia is worlds away from the glitz and glam of Bora Bora and you’ll love exploring the chain of pristine islands.

5. The Pantanal, Brazil

If you’re interested in seeing the world at its wildest, the Pantanal is thriving with diverse and plentiful wildlife. It’s the world’s largest inland wetland area and you can head into the remote are to spot jaguars, witness local cowboys on horseback, and marvel at the hundreds of colorful birds.

For wildlife enthusiasts, the Pantanal is the ultimate destination. And as remote destinations go, Mato Grosso in the Pantanal region is the Pole of Inaccessibility in South America — the most remote destination in the continent.

Which of These Vacation Adventures Will Be Your Next One?

Wow, each of these vacation adventures is truly something special. From scouting for jaguars in the Pantanal to diving the coral reefs of Tuamotu Islands, you’re sure to have an unforgettable trip to one of these remote locations.
