10 Tips on Planning a Vacation During COVID-19

September 22, 2021 / by Andrew / Leave a Comment

COVID-19 is a dangerous and serious disease. You want to do everything you can to prevent it. At the same time, you also want to have fun. If you’re going on vacation when COVID-19 is still an issue, you need to make certain preparations. These tips can help you stay safe.

Making is a Must

Masks have been repeatedly shown to prevent transmission of coronavirus. Have lots of masks with you before you go. This way, if you lose one you’ll have a backup. They should fit comfortably over your nose, mouth and chin.

Get Vaccinated

Vaccination is the easiest and best way to prevent the virus. People who’ve been vaccinated are less likely to get the disease and less likely to get sick if they get infected. You’ll need two doses to be safe.

Find Out Local Requirements

The kind of requirements you’re going to face as you travel will vary from place to place. Know what you need to do before you leave. Keep in mind such requirements may change in response to changing local conditions as you arrive.

Stay in a Single Space

It’s a great idea to focus on a single space during your travels. For example, a farm stay Kangaroo Valley lets you get to know a single area in greater depth. That way, you’re having fun in one part of the community rather than traveling to different places with different requirements and conditions.

Go With Friends

Taking a vacation is even more fun with your friends. Think about the people you really like. Make your own contact bubble by planning a vacation with them. That will give everyone in your party a chance to stay safe as you travel.

Consider a Local Destination

Staying local is a great idea. You don’t have to travel a long distance to have a lot of fun. Explore a local place you’ve always wanted to get to know better right now. You already know the area’s condition and response to the virus.

Emergency Plans

Even the best laid plans can turn awry during the pandemic. That’s why you need to have lots of backup plans in the event that something should go wrong. Make sure you have traveler’s insurance before you do anything else. That will cover the costs of any plans you might have to cancel at the last minute if something should go wrong. If you or someone in your family is dealing with COVID-19, you can get a refund you can use for a vacation after you’ve recovered.

The Members of Your Party

All the members of your party need careful attention. If you’re traveling with a senior, you’ll want to make sure they have any medications they need on hand before you leave. Children also need lots of special attention when you’re taking a trip. Kids do best when they feel secure. Let them know that mommy and daddy are vaccinated and therefore it’s safe to travel. They might have been cooped up for a long time during lockdown. Plan special activities like visits to children’s museums just for them.

Transport Methods

Keep in mind that there may be restrictions on your means of transport. You need to know what they are before you board. For example, if you’re traveling by airplane, you need to know what you can bring with you during the flight. You should also know about any delays as a result of problems caused by the virus. The same is true of traveling by car or on a train. You might have delays because of increased traffic. A local health official might want to see evidence of your vaccination status or where you live. Be prepared to provide the right documentation.

News Alerts

News can change rapidly when you are traveling. Set up an alert for your specific destination online before you leave. For example, there might be a local outbreak in the area. That can lead to early museum closures and other issues that may affect your ability to travel in a community or see what you want when you’re there. You need to stay on top of all regional news in the area as you travel.
