3 Mistakes with Social Media to Avoid in Digital Marketing

However, you might use social media to promote your business and fail to see much in terms of results. If that’s the case, there’s a good chance you’re making mistakes with social media. 

Here’s a quick look at some of the common social medial marketing mistakes businesses make. If you find it hard to create successful social media campaigns, these suggestions will help you achieve social media success.

1. Not Tracking Anything

One of the biggest mistakes people make with their digital marketing strategy is that they don’t track anything. This creates a lot of problems because you end up in a situation where you don’t know what’s actually producing or not producing results.

For instance, you might create two posts that each link to the same URL.

However, if you don’t track the URL, you won’t know which post resulted in the most clicks. As a result, you won’t be able to optimize future posts so that you get better results.

Luckily, tracking campaigns isn’t hard, as most platforms provide you with tracking tools that’ll help you get the job done.

A lot of the time, this involves installing a ‘tracking pixel’ on your website. If you don’t know how to do this, you can hire a freelance web developer, and they’ll help you install the pixel.

2. Ineffective Targeting

Another mistake people make with social media is that they don’t do a good job when targeting ad campaigns.

If your ads aren’t targeted properly, they could be shown to people that don’t belong to your target audience. For instance, suppose you own a gambling company, and you want to promote something like SlotsWise Online Slots.

If you target the wrong age group, you might end up losing a lot of money. That’s because the age group in question doesn’t spend a lot of time on the social media site you’re running your campaigns. Or they might not have the legal right to gamble.

Thus, you need to take a good look at the demographic data associated with your target customers. You can then use this data when setting up your ads.

3. Lack of Experimentation

Some marketers don’t experiment enough.

Experimentation is important because it’ll help you learn how to develop strategies that’ll help your campaign. Practice (experimentation) makes perfect.

Each week, you should publish a few posts that are nothing like your usual content. Note that a lot of these will probably fail, but you’ll eventually find a strategy that improves the way you approach social media.
