July 18, 2020 / by Andrew / Leave a Comment

First, the Sciam lounge in Italy where you’ll find a blend of Roman, Turkish, and Persian decor, in a room filled with sweet shisha smoke. Next, head over to Munich and light up at the Green Room in a cozy cave-like party scene.

Of course, if you’re looking for a truly chill time, the best place to smoke is at home. By learning the best smoking tips and tricks, you can transform your normal living room into the coolest lounge around.

For starters, did you know that putting ice in your water is a fast way to cool smoke off? Once you try it, you’ll never be able to go back to not using ice!

Are you ready to learn more tips to up your smoking game? Read on to find out what you need to do to have cold, tasty hits, every single time.

1. Add Flavors to Your Base

Hookahs go by many names. Pipe, water pipe, hubble bubble, and chillum, are just a few terms used to describe a hookah. Sure you can put water in the base of your water pipe, but where’s the fun in that?

By adding different things to the base of your water pipe, you’ll be able to change the way everything tastes. Here’s a shortlist of fun things you can add to your hookah’s base:

  • Fruit juice
  • Altoids
  • Soda
  • Margarita mix
  • Wine
  • Bean extracts
  • Fruit extracts
  • Frozen fruit

By using different liquids in your base you’ll add a whole new dimension of flavor while also making the smoke thicker. If you choose to try soda as your base, you’ll want to let it go flat before putting it in the water pipe. Fizzy soda can hurt the inside of your pipe, but flat soda is perfectly harmless.

Tips for Using Altoids

Have you ever tasted an Altoid before? It’s the epitome of refreshing coolness! Go ahead and buy a tin of peppermint Altoids and crush up 7-10 of them.

Next, add the crushed up Altoids to the base water in your pipe. The Altoids won’t overwhelm your tastebuds, but they will give the smoke a slight menthol flavor. If you want to get crazy with the mintiness than try smoking mint-flavored tobacco, along with using the Altoid water.

2. Blow Air Out

Sometimes you don’t need to add anything to your water pipe to make it taste fresher. Instead, all you need to do is clear out the stale smoke from time to time.

When you’re having a long smoke session, residual smoke can linger in the base of the pipe. Anyone who goes to take a fresh hit will inadvertently be pulling out the stale smoke at the same time. To avoid this, all you need to do is blow a little bit of air out of the hookah periodically.

Simply blowing the old air out every 20-30 minutes should do the trick. However, be careful to not blow the air too forcefully. If you blow too hard the water will rise through the bowl and ruin everything in it.

3. Put Mint Shisha in Your Hookah

The shisha, or tobacco you smoke out of water pipes, comes in many different flavors. Oftentimes you can also buy hookah coal that compliments the type of shisha you’re buying.

We suggest you try using the mint flavor to give your smoke a cooling sensation. However, be careful to not add too much mint shisha. The refreshing mint flavor can be overpowering, and trying to smoke an entire bowl of the only mint can be too intense.

Instead, you’ll want to blend the mint shisha with a stronger tasting flavor like molasses. The combination of sweet and minty will make it like you’re vaporizing a dessert.

Simply smelling the different smells can awaken your hunger. You may find that after your smoking session, you’re craving something flavorful to eat. To have the best time, prepare by having 1 or 2 of your favorite baked goods available.

4. Don’t Overpack the Bowl

In some cases, more is better, but that’s not the case for packing bowls of shisha. Overpacked bowls are more likely to clog, making it difficult to get a good hit.

Instead, you’ll want to spread the tobacco out evenly, and don’t fill the bowl to the top. There should always be a space left between the foil and the shisha. By leaving the space where you’ll be guaranteeing the holes stay clean. Without space there, tobacco juices can get into the vase, clog up the holes, and make smoking impossible.

5. Frozen Hose Attachment

Another way to keep smoke cool is by purchasing an ice hose attachment. An icehouse attachment is a separate piece of the water pipe that you put in the freezer.

After 3-4 hours of being in the freezer, you can put the hose to work. Simply attach the hose to your water pipe and enjoy a blast of chilled smoke. Be careful however to not put the standard hose that comes with your water pipe in the freezer.

Standard hoses don’t have the right materials, and the plastic they’re made out of can become stiff and break. Instead, only use specially designed ice hoses since they’re made to withstand freezing conditions.

Ice hoses usually have a mouthpiece you can take apart. Inside the mouthpiece, you’ll find tiny ice packs.

The best ice hoses are the ones that come with 2 ice packs. As 1 ice pack begins to melt, you can swap it out with the other frozen one. Now, you’ll always be able to keep the cold smoke flowing freely.

There are also ice hoses that come with ice packs you can’t remove. These ice packs usually resemble ketchup packets. By using multiple ice packs these hoses can stay colder longer. However, some users don’t enjoy the bulky feel that having more than 1 ice pack brings.

Sit Back and Unwind!

Now you know the top hookah tips to have the best smoking sessions! What tip are you going to try out first?
