Finding The Scent That Boosts Your Mood And Productivity

January 31, 2020 / by Andrew / Leave a Comment

Have you ever noticed how a certain scent has the ability to shift your whole mood and instantly make you feel better? No? Well, let’s look at it this way; have you ever been in a bad mood, smelt something appealing to you and then felt better? You may not have ever noticed it before – and most people certainly have not – but smelling something nice has the ability to put you in a better mood. Science has confirmed that, too!

For example, the smell of vanilla or lavender has been known to make people happier or elevate their moods. The smell of pine has been known to relax your senses. If by now you are considering finding the right scent for you to stimulate certain reactions, you are on the right track. You may even be checking out fragrances online Australia is best known for. However, before you get started, this article will help you find the right scent for you – particularly one that boosts your mood and your productivity!

When you smell something that appeals to you, you are bound to feel better or lighter. Most of the time, it is believed that a certain smell is connected with memory. When you smell something and feel a sense of familiarity with it, it is likely you have a memory associated with that scent. These memory associations also play a big role in the scent triggering our moods into being lighter.

Scents also have a big role in our behavior patterns. You would not think it such a significant factor in our feelings and emotions and the way we react to them, but it really is. The sense of smell is one of our five senses. You develop your sense of smell over time as you grow. Because of this development, your brain begins to associate certain smells already familiar to you with good or bad memories. Similarly, smelling something that appeals to you, as well as certain other scents, has been known to boost your mood greatly. Your five senses have a lot to do with the functionality of your brain. The sense of smell is one of the most vital senses a person has. The way we pick up scents has a lot to do with our emotions. Certain scents have been proven to help your body react in different ways.

Finding Your Scent:

What To Look For

Finding the right scent for you should not be too hard. You literally just have to find the scent that makes you feel best. Easy enough, right? Of course, there is also the added step of knowing what exactly you are looking for. Feel like you have not been sleeping too well? Look for scents that have been known to soothe you and make you feel sleepier. Feel like you are extremely anxious or have anxiety problems? Find a scent that has been known to calm you down and make you feel more at ease.

The most common scent that people look for is one to make them feel happier – or, well, lighter. A mood-boosting scent is usually the highest in demand due to its popularity and its proven positive outcome. People are mostly searching for mood-boosting scents because they also have the capability of fixing all sorts of problems you feel inside. A mood-boosting scent could help you change your bad mood into a good one on one day, and then coax your anxiety on another. This is why mood booster scents are the most popular.

Naturally, if you are only on the search for a certain scent, in particular, that is what you should opt for. However, you should know that certain scents appeal to us because of certain associations we may have of them in our past. Sometimes we may even forget the time we first smelt something and do not understand why it attracts and appeals to us so much in the present. This is because your brain is subconsciously reminding you of an association you had with that smell in the past. In this way, finding a scent that you like can be linked to positive or negative feelings depending on how you associate that scent. You could smell a certain perfume on a day you are feeling happy and find that each time after that day that you smell the same perfume, you feel that same happiness. Strange, isn’t it? But, it is a great trick to play on your mind and body through your senses.

What Are You Looking For?

The most important thing to remember as you search for the right scent for you is what you are looking for. Remember, scents come from many different places. Are you looking for a scent in the form of a perfume, candle, oil diffuser or aromatherapy? All of these different forms of scents play a role in altering our moods, as they all work in their own unique ways. Perfumes are the most common associations we create with scents. This is because we carry perfumes with us and smell them around most of the time. Candles, oil diffusers and aromatherapy work in similar, but yet, still different ways. They are all scents that we induce by our own choices – as candles have to be lit, oil diffusers must be turned on and aromatherapy has to be used or applied. These scents are our own way of controlling our moods. However, each one has been known to have positive outcomes and results.

Now that you have a good idea about how scent can change your mood, here is a list of some of the different scents and their effects. This list includes scents that boost your mood, focus, and productivity, as well as calming and soothing scents.

Boost productivity: Citrus, cinnamon, pine, peppermint, eucalyptus, lemon, rosemary.

Feel happier: Vanilla, jasmine, rose, sandalwood, orange.
These scents have a natural soothing pull to them. They have been known to boost your mood by making you feel lighter and happier. These natural smells are also easily available and natural ways to induce good vibes within you.

Feel calmer: Lavender, cedar, apple, fresh-cut grass, jasmine, pine, lemon.
If you ever feel extremely anxious or stressed out, these scents have been known to make you feel calmer. You do not feel as intensely anxious when you inhale these scents, as they have been proven to be vital in healing anxiety and stress. These scents have been found to help people with extreme anxiety issues feel a lot calmer, especially those on a brink of an anxiety attack.

Conclusion

By now you should have a clear idea of the power of scent and what it can do for a person. You should always try to boost your mood as mental health is important. You should feel the drive to heal yourself as best as you can – and by scent is probably one of the easiest ways to do it. Finding the scent that suits you best should also be considered easy, as chances are, you have most likely already smelt it. Just remember what you are looking for, and what feeling you are trying to inflict from it. After that, all that is really left is getting it.
