Debunking the Most Common Cannabis Industry Myths That Exist Today

November 17, 2021 / by Andrew / Leave a Comment

There’s a lot of misinformation out there concerning the cannabis industry. Although it’s legal for more than 100 million Americans, there’s still a strong stigma surrounding cannabis.

We’re going to bust some of the most common myths about it today and hopefully stop the misconceptions. Read on to find out more about cannabis.

Myth: It’s a Gateway Drug

Cannabis is often the first drug that people use, but that doesn’t mean it’s a gateway drug. In fact, according to the Library of Congress and the National Institute of Justice, there is no conclusive evidence to suggest that cannabis is a gateway drug.

So, where did the myth come from that cannabis is a gateway drug? Mostly, it’s just a popular myth since there isn’t any solid data to back up this claim.

Also, programs like D.A.R.E. remain against cannabis, which adds to the stigma surrounding it.

Myth: All Cannabis Products Get You High

This is one of the most pervasive myths surrounding the marijuana community and the cannabis industry in general.

Cannabinoids are compounds found naturally in the cannabis plant. THC is the most well-known one, and it’s the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.

However, while THC gets you “high,” other compounds such as CBD do not. CBD is nonintoxicating, and products with CBD won’t give you a high.

By law, hemp-derived CBD products can contain no more than 0.3% THC. That’s simply not enough to get anyone high.

Myth: Cannabis Is Addictive

Most people who use marijuana will not get addicted, but it can happen.

Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD) is a condition that can range from mild to severe. People that use marijuana every day may experience crankiness or trouble sleeping when they stop. However, the risk of severe symptoms from addiction is unlikely.

Therapy and meditation may help if you believe you have trouble getting by without marijuana.

Myth: There Is a Best Way to Smoke Cannabis

While joints are still one of the most popular ways to smoke marijuana, it’s not the only way. There are also pipes, bongs, edibles, and vape devices.

Similar to how there are many types of marijuana strains, there are many ways to smoke it.

The best way to take cannabis really comes down to your preferences. For instance, bongs use water to filter and cool smoke. Some people consider it the safest way to smoke.

There are different bongs online with various designs and features.

Cannabis Industry Misconceptions: Hemp vs. Marijuana

Hemp and marijuana are both names for the cannabis plant. So what’s the difference?

As we mentioned above, hemp must contain 0.3% or less THC. This is the legal definition of hemp, as outlined by the Agricultural Act of 2018.

Marijuana, also known as weed, pot, and other names, contains more than 0.3% THC by dry weight.

Bringing the Truth About Cannabis

These common myths about marijuana and the cannabis industry are only a few of the many going around. When you hear a myth about cannabis, it’s important to look for the data to avoid misconceptions from spreading.
