3 Medical Equipment Shopping Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

November 11, 2021 / by Andrew / Leave a Comment

The doctors have been making more equipment requests lately. Not a shift goes by without a nurse popping in to say that you’re running low on something or the other.

It’s official. You need to start buying medical equipment. And if the mood in administration is anything to go by, the purchases should have been made last week.

How do you avoid making medical equipment shopping mistakes? Read on to learn about how you can avoid these common equipment purchasing mishaps.

1. Forgetting About Customer Service

Whether you’re relying on a medical equipment supplier like ukmedi.co.uk or you’re exploring your more traditional options, it’s easy to get bamboozled by awesome prices. However, even if you stand to save a bundle, there’s something to be said for the importance of customer care.

Of course, there’s a school of thought out there that says, “As long as I’m getting the products I want, I’m not going to worry too much about follow-up and customer service.” And this is great when everything’s going smoothly. But if there’s a mistake on your order or a quality control issue, a direct connection to customer service is worth its weight in gold.

2. Not Shopping Around

According to MarketWatch, Americans could have saved over $22 billion in 2017 if they had just made it a priority to shop online. And with the so many suppliers out there making it easy to buy equipment online, comparing equipment prices has never been easier.

When you’re shopping for new pants or buying a new watch, there’s nothing worse than that feeling of “I just wasted my money!” when you realize that there’s a sale going on across town. And with your hospital’s equipment budget on the line, it never hurts to make sure that you’re not saying that about your medical equipment budget.

3. Buying Too Much

Between the supply chain shortages and the panicked “Will we have enough of this?” feeling that characterized most medical settings in 2020, it’s way too easy for medical equipment buyers to go overboard. After all, you can never have enough PPE, right?

As it turns out, however, over-buying can be just as bad as buying too little. You don’t want equipment to expire or to waste away before you can use it. And there’s a point where having too much supply can have a negative effect on your storage capacity.

It’s not easy. And it might seem counterintuitive. But if you want to get more bang for your buck, you’re better off buying what you need and no more.

These Medical Equipment Shopping Mistakes Could Cost You Money

Medical equipment is an essential part of making a clinic or a hospital function. But making the right purchasing decision is often easier said than done. With the list of medical equipment shopping mistakes we’ve just provided, however, purchasing the equipment you need has never been easier.
