If you have been planning a trip to this beautiful safari destination, you may be torn between different options available when it comes to booking accommodation in Tanzania. There is much available, from hotels to apartments and hostels, too! The right type of lodging really depends on personal preferences and budget limits.
Here are a few factors that could help you decide what is best for you:
Location:
Many travelers going to the Kilimanjaro region to climb Mount Kilimanjaro prefer to stay in hostels, because the towns in this region offer plenty of the same. Those heading to the coastal area or larger towns will find that hotels are more common and easily available.
In Zanzibar, you will find that accommodation by the beach is much pricier. There are several luxury accommodations options as well. If you want to save on accommodation expenses, you can settle for a hotel that is not by the beach.
Security:
The good thing about hotels is that your belongings are much safer since you do not have to share your room with strangers. You also have the luxury of locking your valuables in a safe and also keeping your private room locked too.
When it comes to hostels in Tanzania, you may not always have the option to lock your belongings. Therefore, carrying a padlock is advisable.
Privacy:
This factor completely depends on you. Do you like making new friends? Or mingling and sharing your travel stories? If you are not very fussed about privacy, then a hostel is a great option for you. Youngsters and teenagers actually prefer hostels because they can have fun and it is cheaper too!
Hotels on the other hand give you privacy, some alone time and you also get your own bathroom.
Price:
Needless to say, this is the first of the four P’s. It can be easy to assume that all hostels are cheap, when in reality it all really depends on the location of the hostel. However, in general, hostels are much cheaper especially when you share a room with other people.
Hotels offer all kinds of options, from mid-range to luxury. When you travel to places like Zanzibar or Dar Es Salaam, you will have plenty of options to choose from. Smaller towns like Moshi and Arusha also have lots of choices for travelers.
It is important to note that if you are going on a safari, the stay in the National Park is usually part of the package. Therefore, you choose according to your budget, between tented camps, 5-start lodges or just camping.
All in all, Tanzania offers something for every traveler. It all depends on your preferences!
