Many people are finding that the past year of destabilization has pushed them to reevaluate their priorities. Some people are quitting their jobs, others are seeking ways to be more mindful, and some are looking for more fulfilling hobbies.
The end goal of all of these things is simple: finding your purpose in life.
This can seem like a major task to take on, and the reality is that once you start, you may never truly stop. However, there are certain things that you can do to find the clarity you need and come closer to finding your purpose.
Read on to learn more about what steps you can take in the process of finding your purpose.
Let Go Of Outside Voices
One of the biggest obstacles to overcome in this life is the expectations of others. From the time we are very young, we’re faced with the expectations of our caretakers, our siblings, our friends, and our teachers. This only continues as we get older and start thinking about the decisions we want to make as adults.
After years of this pressure, we often forget what it is that we really want. Perhaps we haven’t forgotten but what we want stands in direct contradiction to all of those expectations. To find your purpose, it’s time to let go of those outside voices.
Look Beyond Your Job
In a capitalist society, we tend to place a lot of our identity and purpose in the job we hold. However, not all of us get to follow our life’s calling five days a week. It’s important to remember that your job is what you do to make the money you need to support your life, and then figure out what it is that you want to do with your life.
Take into consideration factors such as your Spiritual Direction, your passions, and what motivates you. You are far more than just your job. It’s time to look at yourself and see the full picture.
Picture Yourself Completely Fulfilled
Spend some time on these first two steps, whether that’s through journaling or meditation or simply letting those thoughts marinate in your subconscious. Once you have a clearer vision of who you really are at your core, picture yourself completely fulfilled.
What is it that brings you joy in these imaginings? What are you doing or experiencing that makes you feel content and makes you feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be? As these things become more clear, you will come steps closer to understanding what you can and should do to fulfill your purpose.
Finding Your Purpose Can Start Today
We often move through life assuming that we are fulfilling our purpose or that our purpose will mysteriously reveal itself to us sometime in the future. The reality is that finding your purpose does require soul searching, and that soul searching can begin today.
