Details about buying the DVD from Amazon
Hey all –
Couple of important things about the DVD:
1) Some other merchant bought a DVD from us and is now listing it for $69.99 on Amazon's site! And for some reason, he's the default listing. Don't buy it from them for that much money, that's crazy! To get to the legit sale, click on the link that says "New from $15.99" - don't use the normal add to cart amazon button.
2) Apparently people from outside the US are unable to get it shipped to them right now. We're working to get that fixed. You should be able to get it sent worldwide for an affordable shipping price!
Both of these things are being addressed by Amazon soon, we hope. Sorry!

Boy Sets Fire at the Troc - Last Concert on DVD
Yeah, we know this took forever and we're sorry. But we do think you'll really enjoy it. 21 songs in concert, an unreleased song, a lot of fun, the last show.Available on Amazon:
NTSC format - Generally the US uses this format.
or
PAL format - Generally Europe uses this.
(This is the last show, in Philly. The European Tour DVDs are still being worked on.)
Update: If you live in Canada, it should be available for export by 9/30, according to Amazon. Any other international folks, let us know if you're having a problem. Amazon should be able to ship around the world.

news....
So to recap.
Boysetsfire was a band for over 12 years. We played basements, clubs, and sometimes huge fields with tents in them. We recorded four full-length records, some eps, and one official self-released seven inch.
We accomplished way more than we ever deserved. US tours, European tours, Australia. A band from Delaware playing in Australia? Come on. Don’t be silly.
So the time for parting come to an end. We had decided with heads held high to proudly kill what what we had created and to let it die with dignity, aplomb, and in good memory. Most specifically, it was a retirement party. Not a sad forced retirement but a happy one filled with nostalgia and contentment as we sit back and watch younger upstarts with mascara smeared countenances carry the torch we had lit over a decade ago.
Would have worked out fine.
But then I fell. It hurt a lot. Still does.
I missed the last tour so I think we all feel that the final chapter wasn’t quite pencilled in.
So the rumors are true.
We are doing one last tour in Europe to say a proper good-bye to all our friends in that great continent.
Shows are being confirmed as we speak.
The tour runs from May 11- May 19.
We also need a practice area for a couple days prior to the tour if anyone can help us out.
Thanks.
Kisses.
bsf
we are still working on a final philly show, prolly in may. let you know!

The Man Who Fell To Earth, How I Fell
It started as nice day. Warm, of course, but not too bad. And it was Friday, of course, and if it being Friday doesn’t put a grin on your face then well you haven’t worked enough. I had just started working for this particular outfit although I had known the guys for years and liked everyone pretty well. There was Josh, Tom, Billy Bones and Joey. And me. Another Josh. This is is the story of how I fell.

Josh Is Home
Josh is home. How great is that? He moves around quite well too, when you consider that he fell from 30 feet just a little more then a month ago, broke his back and damaged his spine. He's in therapy every day and working hard to get back to health.
He has a pretty wicked metal cane too. He could really mess someone up with it if he wanted to. Not that he would.

Another Josh Update
Hey all, I got to see Josh pick up his 2 year old son today and put him on his lap, it was pretty awesome. (He was in a wheelchair). He's really healing up. Unfortunately, he's been told lately that he will likely still be using a cane and in pain even in December. So that was a little depressing to him. . . but. . .
He's so thankful he's not completely paralyzed - he's surrounded by people who will be disabled for life. One of the new friends he has made drank too much at a party, got into a car. .. and next thing he knew, was in the hospital and is completely paralyzed. He also knows someone who was diabetic and had a small infection on his leg. Now 3 operations later, his leg is amputated up to his thigh.
So yeah, he's very thankful.
Couple of funny stories. Many of you know Josh and his great personality. Well the therapists love Josh too. And because of this, every one of them has signed Josh up for their sessions. So Josh was getting way too busy and exhausted and had to cancel on some of them.
Another story. The hospital heard that Josh was a musician, so they forced him to join the musical rehab class. A man who can only move one hand pounds on a drum while Josh plays the keyboard. He said he plays mostly Blues chords. Wow, if only we had video of that one.
Josh walked 205 feet with his walker. He walks everyday now. He says its so painful, but also feels great to accomplish so much. He actually also pushed himself up off of the floor.
If any of you would still like to donate, they could still use anything anyone wants to give. He won't be able to work for quite some time, and workman's comp only covers 75% of his former salary. He and his family greatly appreciate everything you've done for them so far, it's amazing. People who attended the European tour, thanks so much for your generosity.

Prognosis
Josh met with a team of doctors today. The chief doctor was there and Josh asked him what he thought. He said, "You wanna know what I think? I think you're fuckin' lucky to be alive."
They then proceeded to tell him he will be at Magee for a month, but that then he will WALK out of the hospital when he goes home.
Good news all around.

Josh In Philadelphia
Hi all –
You wouldn't believe the improvement in Josh from last week to this. It's nothing short of miraculous. Actually that might not be hyperbole. When he was admitted to University of Maryland, the X-Ray showed his neck was broken. It's not anymore. The admitting checkup at Magee Hospital in Philly showed no fractures in his neck. Josh said he's pretty sure it was broken, but it feels fine now. Like a phoenix raising from the ashes. . .
He's in a wheelchair now, so he can move around. His spirits are great. The hospital has this great patio garden on the top floor, where you can overlook the city. This is a very cool hospital, full of Philly Soul. He finally got to see his kids for the first time yesterday. His rehab work is very hard and very painful (he says it's just as hard as they make it look in the movies, that isn't exaggerated.)
Anyway it's good that he's out of the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit (and it's $1000 per hour pricetag!) for a number of reasons. The great news is that the 7 days he spent there are covered by Workman's Comp (that's. . . 168 hours) They are telling him he could be at this Philly hospital for as long as a month, but things are really looking good.
I'm mentioning the donation fund again and again just because I want to be able to post updates without moving the button far down the page for those of you who do want to help him out. I'm not trying to hit you all up for money over and over. And really, don't feel any pressure to give. If you're in debt or just barely paying your own bills, don't give money, just give kind words and prayers (that really seem to be working.)
If you'd rather send a check (cash, euros, diamonds) or something like that. You can send it to me at

Update on Josh
Today marks some good news. As I write, Josh is being transferred to a spinal injury rehab hospital in Philadelphia. This will be very good for him and his recovery, as he's moving from the "just trying to keep him alive stage" to the "getting him back to normal" stage of the process. The sad thing is that he will have to work through a tremendous amount of pain while there.
They won't be able to predict how long he'll be there until they see him themselves, but this is the next step in a long trip back to normal health. Thanks again to all of you, it's been incredible. You've boosted Josh's spirits over and over.
And remember, if you want to donate something to Josh's fund, just click the button below and use paypal.

Thank you for the donations and the kind words - and a gift for you.
Hi all, it's Jason again. I wanted to personally thank you wonderful fans for the generosity you have shown for Josh. Talking about you to him really lifts his spirits, and his family appreciates your donations so much.
Josh is still in the Shock Trauma Unit at University of Maryland (at first he was only meant to be there 2-3 days, but that has obviously been extended as this was more serious then originally known). He had a frightening episode of vomiting up old blood, but that is now resolved with some more surgery and the insertion of yet another tube. The doctors have now said though that he will have a full recovery, though they are not able to estimate how long it will take.
I know that BSF fans have had a couple horrible weeks, so I wanted to give you a little bit of good news. As a thanks to those of you who have donated to Josh, you can download an unreleased track from the Misery Index recordings called "Never Surrender." If you listen to the lyrics of this song, you'll see they fit what Josh is going through, so even though they didn't know it at the time, I think they wrote this for him.
There are 2 versions of the song, you can download them both.

Donations for Josh
OK, the truth is that josh and his family could use some money. Things are tight and it takes a long time to get the worker's comp and it's up in air how much his health care will and won't cover. You know co-pays and all can be very high.
So – while he hasn't asked for it – I'm sure he would be very thankful if people did want to donate something to help them out. We're probably going to try to put together a benefit for him sometime in the near future too.
Just so you know, this is Jason, another of his younger brothers.
This payment will be made to my email address, jasonlatshaw@yahoo.com, and I'll give him all the money you donate (minus the fees that paypal charges, like around 2% I think).

world cup fever! now there is a fever you can’t sweat out!
anyone else watch my adopted team beat the argies in a thrilling overtime win? wow...that was just incredible and since our fricking tour is now almost all germans (not really) it was absolutely thrilling to see everyone so excited about this truly thrilling sport.
so we sit in ragensburg, oise’s home town which we were led to believe was a tiny village deep in the black forrest but it really isn’t...it is an actual city. i expected to see goats eating on the sod roofs but no... just normal big city stuff you know.
yesterday was sweden and we played at the most unrock hour of 12 o clock which was just agony especailly if you are used to sleeping until at least three everyday. the show was quite fun however, with the deftones and keetcar (which is ..but alive’s new band who i am quite the fan of!) bus call was at eight o’clock which was....wierd. so the whole day was tilted and confusing as oppessed to our normal days which are....yeh. i guess nothing is normal right now huh...
tomorrow will be prague which is my favorite city..cant wait....i am a little sad i wont be home for all the bar-b-ques...but that is the life we lead huh...then a day off in prague. i really hope i get to see a show. it is like the marionette capital of the world...
see ya all soon...

ciao!
ciao from italy the land of hot shows and late buscalls!
greeting from italy, one of my favorite countries in the world. italy is full of warm hearted and generous people who are generally interested in your personal well being. it is wonderfull. today we went to the beach and relaxed and oise and myself went swimming. unfortunately neither one of us were wearing authentic euro beach wear which are the banana hammocks people love to mock when they see euro beaches. it was nice to relax because it wasn’t like that the first few day of tour.
leaving the us was for some reason horrible busy and chaotic. nothing seemed to go right from packing the guitars to putting the chairs back in the van. i dont know why, i guess we had some bad karma lined up. guess you it always gets you in the end. was that the beatles? dont remember...
so much to catch up on....the flight was horrible everyone was sick gene was vomiting chris and i were nauseous. it was awful!
leeds was great it was my birthday (28) and so we rocked it a little bit harder than usually even though we were tired as heck. went to a little club danced ok not really...
bristle was sweet our good friends matt and ivonne came out and hung out with us. matt even sang on ATE. matt sings in a band called funeral for a friend. they are getting married soon...so nice....
oise is kicking ass as a tour manager. and he looks fantastic as he does it. this is his bachelor party which is the saddest one ever!
italy was great....love this country and its people...really do!
gotta go....
bands we hung with....
evergreen terrace
black dahlia murder
most precious blood
damnation a.d.
love you all....see ya!

the beautifull snuggle; stories from the heart of texas
so much has happened since last we talked, dear reader, i feel that our time together is too fleeting and i know it is my fault as well as yours and i will try harder to communicate. let's work on this together. maybe counseling? we will see.
so cali was awesome as always. it has been way too long since we have been out that way and i forgot how much i miss that giant state of vegetarian food, hippies, and leftist thought. thanks to all the friends who came out to support us we love you all and we will be back as soon as possible. we swear this. the festival at san diego state was awesome. talib was amazing.

another all nighter? are you joking?
so last night was boise the land of potatos a place i only know of from a prior visit when we played in an art gallery and stayed at a mans house who was straight up wearing a dress. not even a very nice dress actually pretty slovenly looking. but it was a fun show and now i write to you from seattle one of my favorite cities ever. another all night drive which gordon our intrepid tour manager took most of and we are feeling the consequences. have you ever slept sitting up in a bumpy van? i didn't think so...normal people dont.

wear our influences on our sleeves...
no band exists in a vacuum. as much as they might like you to think it, no band is wholly original and if they are they are probably terrible. all bands are the sum total of their influences and those that came before them that didn’t get the attention they should have.
i read interviews with bands all the time and i rarely see any of these “big” bands discuss the music they grew up listening to. the music that paved the way for them and the music that made their lives bearable.
all i see are interviews where impossibly hip musicians talk about how original they are and how they don’t belong to a “scene per se” and how they are starting something that no-one has ever tried.
uh....don’t think so. usually when they say that it, it is pretty obvious to me who they are ripping off. usually the used or gun and roses.
but it digress.
in the next few days before we leave for tour and maybe interspersed throughout the hilarious diaries entries i (and whoever wants to!) am gonna pay homage to the records that made me who i am. which is of course debatable wether that is a good thing or not.
my first choice for influences is billy by samiam.http://www.myspace.com/blackthroat

what a great tour. you guys were great everynight. some nights when we were tired or sick or not “feeling it” one look at you guys was all we needed to jumpstart our show and realize that we had a duty to do our best every single fucking night.
and we tried.
i know sometimes we disappointed you but that is normal in every relationship. isn’t it?
so many funny stories....

water fight
sorry the lapse betwixt updates. the shows have been a blast as always in europe with last night in bremen being an outrageous affair that ended in a stage drenching water fight. it was the most fun we have ever had in bremen, bar none. it was awesome.
this is how it started.

finally
it is indeed a glorious day for us in the boysetsfire camp.
for today is the day that our new record the misery index: notes from the plague years is finally released in the usa, our home nation.
it has been a long hard slough but we did it with much help from many people.
please feel free to purchase a copy at your local record store.
peace.

new song on myspace
wassup y'all! so we got a new song posted of our new record the misery index. you can listen to it by using your mouse and clicking here it is one of the first songs we wrote for this record and it is in nearly the same form as when we first wrote it.
its early saturday morning in elkton and i am freezing. i can't wait until we tour nice warm europe and can hang with all of our friends there. we have some news on that tip but can't really go into it right now.
so i guess i will go outside and do some yard work. i recently had a tree chopped down (because it was dead, i am not cruel) and have branches scattered everywhere.
see you all in Philadelphia tomorrow. got the cds yesterday and quite honestly they look awesome. can't wait till you guys can see them.

updates, finally! what the heck, man?
so here we go finally an update, or the State of the BSF Union Address as we shall now call it. (did anyone watch that idiot the other night? our president? i wish i could give an informed opinion but i can’t even watch him on the tv any more. i have a visceral reaction that manifests in nausea. i would rather watch battlestar galactica anyday than wach that moron blather on. to be honest i would rather watch battlestar over nearly anything. i like how he said we need to ween ourselves off oil. i got something he needs to ween himself off of. where was I? oh yeah.

reviews reviews.....
reviews are a funny part of any bands life. ask anyone in a band what they think of reviews and they are likely to simply laugh it off and say they don’t give a shit what the hell reviewers say. most likely frustrated musicians anyways! that likely means that they get bad reviews. actually any band when they are being honest would say they do care about reviews.

these guys helped us on the record..
when this record, the Misery Index; Notes from the Plague Years, was in its infancy (it was so cute then! it had the sweetest little nose!) we decided as a band that we would be open to anything. i mean anything! as long as it made US stoked, it went on the record.

chilling, shows coming up, you know
Sorry it’s been a while since we have had an update but it has been somewhat quiet around these parts. we find ourselves in the unlikely situation of simply chilling around the house waiting for the record to come out so we can start the touring cycle again. nathan is doing interviews, mostly making up stories about his redneck past.
Chad and i are in the basement fixing computers so we can finish recording the full length record for the Look Machine. Special thanks to Jack who drove down from New Jersey to help us. Thanks Jack! Jack also gave us a demo for his band one win choice that is pretty darn good.
Robert is exploring baltimore and becoming a ravens fan and matt is playing in a new band with our friends called piss and vinegar (the friends are lee and pete) who are playing at the east end this friday night with blackthroat and clobbersaurus.
we are actually playing some shows in this next month the soonest being at montclair state university in new jersey. its a free show and should be fun. we are also playing at rex’s on february 25 and at the north street bar in philly in early march more details coming! talk to you soon.....j

a fun game we all can play together
so i am an official “office” freak.
for those of you who don’t know (and i pity you!) the office is a brilliant mockumentary that allows us a tiny view into the lives of people working in a paper company. the american one is of course based on the british one which i fell in love with on one of our first transatlantic flight. i was laughing like a loon, ensconced in headphones, drawing the bemused looks of pity mixed with derision from my fellow passengers who to be honest really have no room to speak because they are probably watching the son of the mask or some crap. whatever. both versions of the office work because they have a great cast led by ricky gervais in england and the incomparable steven correl is the usa. but i really didn’t want to discuss the office today.

holidays are over, thank god
hey all,
i hope you all had a wonderful holiday season replete with sugary plums dancing around your head and the thought of aught 6 making your little wiggly bodies wiggle with excitement because this is the year we put out our fourth full-length record, our joshua tree so to speak. i hope at the very least your holiday season was better than mine because mine was horrid. anyway, that new record with the long-ass title “the misery index; notes from the plague years” (i just realized that that title is literally one letter away from being a dentistal statement. huh, funny! (notes from the plaque years, much better!) anyway, i know it is far away, but we got our tour initial schedule for europe all done and the us one coming soon. check it out.

home sweet home
home sweet home.
we got home sunday morning at about six in the morning, exhausted but happy. the poughkeepsie show was fun, even though i missed shai hulud who are one of my favorite bands ever. i did get to meet matt fox who is the man behind the curtain in shai hulud who was one of the sweetest dudes i have ever met. so many great bands played that day that i would be remiss in trying to list them all but we had a blast and saw a lot of good music. congrats to the promoters and all that.
thanks for everyone who came out and humored us as we stumbled through our songs. we love you all!
thanks to gordon, the rakus, and gene. you guys were great.
we will be back after the holidays. to everyone asking when we are coming to their area, we will post the tour dates as soon as possible. dont worry we will come the left coast next time, possibly before the right coast.
new record will come out in early march. touring will commence around then.
we love you all!

Message Boards
Hi all --
The current message boards are maintained and paid for by Wind Up Records. They were actually pretty nice to let us continue to use it while we put together a new place to discuss things.
As part of the switchover to Equal Vision, starting next week the new official bsf message board will be located here.
So take this week to say goodbye to the old board, and set up a identity at the new place.

Before the Eulogy

Yep this is late coming. . . but Before the Eulogy is now available for sale. 20 songs, all of the early recordings in one nice package. And yes, the more observant have already noticed that Rocket Man is not really Rocket Man. . . a mistake was made. We'll see how that is solved exactly. We're not sure.

NEW EXCLUSIVE FREE DOWNLOAD (VIDEO & AUDIO)
we just posted a brandnew exclusive song in the SIREN section. just like the other two songs on there this song is absolutely free, so pls check it out and we hope you like it. it's another song that didn't make the cut.
but it gets better!!!!!: our friends Jason & Collin did a DIY video for the song, which came out awesome...you can see the video in SIREN as well. THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL NEW BSF VIDEO from our upcoming album, but something worth seeing regardless...
"dear george" was also written in the period over the last 2 years and we really hoped for it to be non-relevant after the election 2004, but oh well, it still is and that's why we decided to share it with y'all...
obviously the video is strongly connected to the content of the song (hence the title).
pls make sure to watch the little visual for it. a big thank you to jason and collin for all their hard work on it...we truly appreciate it.

well, we raised money for katrina survivors
which is good, of course. and we played our hearts out to an appreciative crowd of aged drinkers comprising of way too many of our close friends and families. and we did it with a guest drummer michael who appears courtesy of the bouncing souls. beers were drank, bands played, and it was all for charity so that made us feel good. carrying our gear through the rain? that made us feel wet.

This Friday
Hey Everyone,
greetings from the BSF camp, where we're extremly excited to announce that this friday we'll be not only playing our first show in a pretty long time, but also have some backup from one of the best drummers in today's punk scene. Matt unfortunately won't be able to make it to the show on friday, since he has to attend a wedding (not his own!) in Wisconsin...to not cancel the show (it is a benefit after all) our good friend Michael Mc Dermott from the Bouncing Souls will fill in for Matt...
I heard him yesterday rock out to his i-pod in my basement playing BSF tunes and it sounded great...i think it'll be different and a lot of fun.
We wanted to take this opportunity to thank Michael for his support!!!
Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole!!!

The Shape Of Us To Come
hey everybody.
i'm back from my visit to the fatherland and it was great to see my family and friends over there...we are actually playing 2 shows (for the first time in many years) with my old band MY HERO DIED TODAY in Munich and some other German city to celebrate the release of a MHDT discography on DANCING IN THE DARK records (of old BSF roadie and friend Oise Ronsberger) in December...if you live around the Munich area come to the show on the 27th of December! i keep you posted where the other show will be...
other than that Chad and Nathaniel are on their way to bring Lou Giordano our songs/babies to mix and i can't tell you how much it means, that Lou is doing the mix. He is not only a great and humble guy, but truly one of my favourite producers (i mean, come on...he was the Husker Du sound guy for christ's sake!!!) and he supported us strongly ever since we first met him a while ago...this filthy and corrupt music world doesn't have many people like him in it.
i wanted to take this poourtunity to thank Lou for all he's done for us...

we are done! the record is done!
ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure and much pride to annouce that the misery index is officially tracked. we have been to three studios in three different states worked with three different engineers and slept very little over the last couple of months. this is such a cathartic moment.
we would like to take a second and thank everyone who gave us breaks or bent the rules in order to help this record come to fruition. thanks to evr/bh for their support and belief in us. this is very exciting for us, to create the record we wanted to create.
Another exciting item to report is that Lou Giordano has agreed to mix our record. Lou was our first choice to mix and we are very gratefull that he is willing to do this. Lou is awesome, he has done most of our favorite records. We would also love to thank his manager Andrew who worked so hard to make this happen.
The updates won't stop though, Robert and I plan on annoying you guys on a nearly daily basis for the rest of our live's together. We plan on adding video at some point but Jason my brother won't let me use his recharging cord thing so I got no camera (just kidding, he will let me use just not over night!)
additionally, our reissues are coming out this month so keep the eyes peeled.
love,
the bsf

we are taking a few days off...
please do not be alarmed. we are taking a few well deserved days off for a variety of reasons. Robert is going to Germany to see his family and do some visa stuff (apparently it is very important he have a credit card, I don't know why!) Matt is in LA collecting on some old debts ( if you know what I mean!) and the rest of us are going to Chincoteague for a wedding.
No none of us are getting married although you would think we were married to each other. so anyway long story short, we may not post for a little bit but we are not breaking up, up in arms, armed to the teeth....what? or anything, just not posting for three days or so...cya next tuesday! the bsf
