Thank you for the donations and the kind words - and a gift for you.
Hi all, it's Jason again. I wanted to personally thank you wonderful fans for the generosity you have shown for Josh. Talking about you to him really lifts his spirits, and his family appreciates your donations so much.
Josh is still in the Shock Trauma Unit at University of Maryland (at first he was only meant to be there 2-3 days, but that has obviously been extended as this was more serious then originally known). He had a frightening episode of vomiting up old blood, but that is now resolved with some more surgery and the insertion of yet another tube. The doctors have now said though that he will have a full recovery, though they are not able to estimate how long it will take.
I know that BSF fans have had a couple horrible weeks, so I wanted to give you a little bit of good news. As a thanks to those of you who have donated to Josh, you can download an unreleased track from the Misery Index recordings called "Never Surrender." If you listen to the lyrics of this song, you'll see they fit what Josh is going through, so even though they didn't know it at the time, I think they wrote this for him.
There are 2 versions of the song, you can download them both.
Never Surrender Vs 1
Never Surrender Vs 2
And remember, if you want to donate something to Josh's fund, just click the button below and use paypal.
If you'd rather send a check (cash, euros, diamonds) or something like that. You can send it to me at

BTW, the paypal-button in this post is not valid. It gave an error message. The money is on its way though, through the last post's button. Hope it will be of any use...

P.S. the more often I listen to Never Surrender, the better it gets. Thank you again.

I fixed the button. And yes, this is one of the best songs on the Misery Index. Too bad it somehow didn't actually make it onto the official release.

Hi Jason
I'm gonna give my donation tomorrow. It's going to be very small I'm afraid (I'm only 15 afterall) so it will be about £5.
Posted by: John Jacobs at August 23, 2006 05:08 PM
Just to wish Josh all the best and hope he recoveres as soon as possible.
Really shocked to hear the news (not to mention distraught at the break-up of my favourite band. AND the fact that I missed you last time you toured the UK...somewhat placated by the fact I saw you the other two times (Dec and June I think) )
But yes, my thoughts are with you all and I've made a small donation to the cause.
Thank you.

Jason thankyou so much for the songs, and for keeping us all informed on how Josh is doing, I check in here regularly to see how he is and it's good to know that he's being well cared for.

Such a good song with empowering lyrics. They're always good for that.. I knew there was a reason I liked this band.
Yeah and like everyone else says, thanks for keeping us updated. I like the first version better btw.

Anyone wanna take a stab at the lyrics... Here's my interpretation of Version 1: Minus a few parts where I just can't decipher....
Long night is finally over, silence sounds like a choir
This could be our greatest moment in this trial of life
Chorus:
We're all standing here blessed to be aliiiive
When this world is fading? the pain means you will surviiiiive
When this world keeps failing, surrender nothing
Trembling arms holding eachother, with more yesterdays yet to come
??A new resolve with actions on shoulders??? to reveal what is gone
Chorus (except this time it says and we feel what is to be aliiive... when this world....)
Here I have no clue something about sunburns, shadows, and pressing on..
A blood touched goddes that sustains your will to survive... it makes you wonder if this ever stops
Time will pass and we will get older, bitterness fades away
Though we're stronger we never would have.. chosen what we had to learn on that day
Chorus (We're standing here blessed and we know what it is to be alive... when this world...)
Yeah butchered I know, but hey I gave it a shot. I blame it on boredom

Hey Jason,
just thought I'd drop a word of encouragement to the BSF family.
You are f'ing amazing. Seriously. BSF has been a huge influence on my life, musically, and, from the massive ammount of comments on this blog, many other people's as well. I hope you guys know that BSF is something spectacular, and we love you guys.
You've offered so much, musically, politically, and personally, to so many kids, it boggles the mind. Thank you all for that.
Thank you for being who you are, and refusing to back down from that. BSF has given all of us an amazing example, and left a deep legacy, of respect, of passion, of standing up and speaking out, of integrety.
I am so thankful I got introduced to this band. Your music has been part of the soundtrack of my life, and it's been a great source of joy to me.
And I am thrilled to hear Josh is going to make a full recovery. Keep fighting man! You're in my prayers daily. I look forward to rocking out with you some day very soon.
Much love from the West coast of Canada.

Geez, sounds so good to me that Josh gonna make a full recovery.
I was horrified to hear such bad news.
Josh is such a nice guy....Last time I talked to him is about 4 yrs ago or so. In Bremen/Germany.... we wanted to go get some drinks but the band had to leave due to some timetable or so....
I wish him all the best. As soon as I have money on my account I'll make a donation.
I'll see the rest of you guys next monday in Hamburg...

Josh-
Thanks for all the good times, I too work construction and had a similar incident a couple years back (though not near as tragic). Anyways, I don't have a credit card so I'm going to see what I can afford on my next paycheck and send it to you.
I'm glad to hear you'll make a full recovery, thanks for all the good times and good music.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

huh... because they're teh awesoem, of course!
i would most definitely donate if they hadn't forgotten portugal on their (last) european tour.. and the timing for the tour was bad as well, flight tickets are still too expensive so i have no choice but to regret never seeing you guys live, ever..
all the best wishes to Josh! i'll be asking for a reunion tour in a couple of years, ya hear me?;)

This is Josh's Mom. We were told today that many people had seen Josh's x-rays when he first arrived at the Shock Trauma Center and that everyone was 100% certain that Josh was paralyzed! How grateful we are that he will be able to walk. Josh has continued to be his humorous self throughout these past difficult days. Thanks for all your prayers, good wishes, and donations. Everything means so much to Josh and Sunshine.
We've had some hard times at the hospital, but I wanted to really thank 2 nurses for their kindness and care: Scott and John, Thanks!

Hi-
My name is Joni. My son, Chad, is at the rehab with Josh. I just have to say that Josh is a super person! He has taken Chad under his wing and has become a friend to him. Josh is a really funny person and I am so glad that Chad and I have gotten to know him. He has helped boost Chad's spirits with his wonderful personality and great humor. I am so happy that there are terrific people like Josh in this world! I wish him the best in his recovery!!
