Donations for Josh

OK, the truth is that josh and his family could use some money. Things are tight and it takes a long time to get the worker's comp and it's up in air how much his health care will and won't cover. You know co-pays and all can be very high.

So – while he hasn't asked for it – I'm sure he would be very thankful if people did want to donate something to help them out. We're probably going to try to put together a benefit for him sometime in the near future too.

Just so you know, this is Jason, another of his younger brothers.
This payment will be made to my email address, jasonlatshaw@yahoo.com, and I'll give him all the money you donate (minus the fees that paypal charges, like around 2% I think).

If you'd rather send a check (cash, euros, diamonds) or something like that. You can send it to me at

Hi Jason

I will try and make a donation though it would be very small. I'm very tight on money at the mo.

Just another comment. This just shows how the American Health System is fucked up. Over here in England we get it for free.

Posted by: John Jacobs at August 21, 2006 12:40 PM

no pressure at all guys, I just kind of set this up since some people had asked for it below, and I know things are tight.

and yes, the US healthcare system is not good.

Posted by: jason at August 21, 2006 12:53 PM

Will you just confirm and let me know you got that please.
Wish I could do more, but hey I'm sure every little bit helps.

Thanks.

Posted by: Heather at August 21, 2006 01:12 PM

Posted by: paul uk at August 21, 2006 01:13 PM

J. Robinson
M. E Augusta

Thanks so much guys, I already gave the cash to Sunshine (josh's wife) and she she was amazed at the generosity so far and very very thankful.

wait a second - did I read that right? There's a US healthcare system? I thought all there was was a healthcare-less and no system!

FEEL BETTER JOSH!

Sending you positive healing vibes!

And I'm practicing my balloon animals skills for you and will see you soon to make some for you! Will also learn some magic tricks. Hoping to find a magic trick that heals bones - guess I better get on the hunt for David Blaine. ;-)

May the Force be with you!

hey guys,

the situation looks very bad but dont let it get you down ...

as fab asked, is there a possibility to give some money to a german account ??? maybe roberts ??

hope i can help that way .. get well soon josh

Posted by: Christoph L. at August 21, 2006 06:40 PM

I gave what I could, which isn't very much. Hope it helps.

Posted by: Kelly at August 21, 2006 07:23 PM

damn, youre one lucky s.o.b. josh. my comp here at home is really slow, but when i get to work tomorrow, im gonna try to make a donation. get better soon man.

Posted by: Sean at August 21, 2006 09:52 PM

I sent robert an email about the german account question, I'll let you know how tht works out.

Honestly guys your generosity has astounded me. I think it's so great that the ideals that bsf has stood for have not been just words for all of you. The following have also given some today. Thank you so much.

K Ohrenick
T Marshall
J Hickman
R Wilbrandt
K Carter
M Peper
N Schroeder
M Teglo
j friesinger
H Gronle
C Eichiner

One last note, for some stupid reason I think that $3 shipping is being added to the donations. I can't figure out why. I promise this isn't my attempt to squeeze a little more out of anyone.

So if you want to donate, donate $3 less then what you really want to give.

FEEL BETTER JOSH!
There's more rockin' left to come. Before you know it you'll be on your feet, and we'll all be there cheering for you. Don't forget to keep your spirits high, the pain and therapy are only temporary but punk rock is forever!

I just wanted to send my best to Josh and all his family and friends. It was hard enough to hear the retirement, though deserved, of a band that has been so influencial in my life and then this. Take care and all my best. Eric in SLC

Posted by: Eric F at August 21, 2006 11:01 PM

Hey man, just a line saying that I hope everything turns out ok. I think that you are going to make it cos it you weren't, you wouldn't have made it this far. I myself work construction and it sounds like you had a pretty fall and it sounds like it hurt like hell, but keep your head up and horns high my man. Recover quick cos the fans love ya.

"This just shows how the American Health System is fucked up", and unfortunately, it's the reality...
Hold on Josh, our prayers are for you.
We miss you Boysetsfire...

Posted by: Ben at August 22, 2006 05:57 AM

Hey man! get better soon, i'm a massive fan of what you guys have done, blew me away at livid in brisbane, your aussie fans are behind you. good luck can't wait to see you return to the stage!

Posted by: james schmidt at August 22, 2006 06:23 AM

I'm shocked of what I had to read a few mins ago... I'll do my best to make a donation, although I have outstanding debts & little money to live...
Speaking to Josh I just want to say: I had the luck to meet you in cologne last december, we had an interview & a very good talk from person to person... by the way that single hour was enough to recognize you are a positive & very good natured person...
So I hope by heart you will recover from that horrible injury... it will take sometime, but some people are thinking of you right now & this should give you the energy to endure this time... so it's time for us to pay back the power you gave us over years with your band.
in hope,
patrick

Posted by: patrick at August 22, 2006 06:26 AM

hope everything will turn out good... so you're still playing the shows in europe as i see. we'll have some money for you to give to josh in leipzig. now i'm sad again... first the news of breaking up, now this horrible accident. keep your heads held high! see you in leipzig.

Posted by: roland at August 22, 2006 07:26 AM

Hey Guys, I can't believe you are stopping your fantastic music and Josh I hope you get better soon. I am an avid fan from U.K, I saw you guys play at Exeter Lemongrove and you blew me away with talent! I have all your cd's so I will be listening to them and hoping you want to play 1 last gig in England?!
Get Well Soon Josh!

Posted by: Lizi at August 22, 2006 07:39 AM

how is josh? how is he diong right now? and what happened?

Posted by: eli at August 22, 2006 09:20 AM

Josh-

I've got my fingers and my toes crossed for your Josh! My mom's boyfriend had a three story fall very similar to yours about ten years ago. He has a few back problems now, but for the most part totally recovered. I know you can do the same thing! Boysetsfire has always gotten me through the tough times in my life and I know everyone wants to help you out too. Please let us know if there is anything else (aside from what's already listed) your fans can do for you!

Posted by: Margaux at August 22, 2006 12:31 PM

As mentioned above, is there the possibility to transfer the money on a europea account?

Posted by: Andi B at August 22, 2006 01:05 PM

Well I don’t actually know Josh but I gave what I could because I know that worker’s comp. can be a real pain in the ass. My dad had a similar accident a few yrs ago on a construction site (he is completely fine now) and worker’s comp. tried to say it was caused by a previous off the job knee injury. This previous injury was when he played high school football and he’s now 57! I know the recovery will sometimes be frustrating and hard but it seems like Josh has good friends and family to help him...not to mention the many people thinking about him. So I send my best to Josh and his family and even if this money just puts gas in his family’s car so they can visit him I hope it helps. xoxo

Posted by: Anonymous at August 22, 2006 01:11 PM

hey josh,
i´m really feel sorry for you, but i can`t spend money ´cause i´m at school and i don´t find any time to earn money... so i think that warm fine words will help you in some way. Hope you feel better soon. I hope this words and the comments of your fans will help you. Like you helped (in some way) me and your fans with boysetsfire.
I saw your show in munich in march this year and i have to say you were the funniest guy that night. Thank you. Tomerrow will be better.
I play guitar, too. And everyone who writes and performs songs like you are some kind of heroes for me.
I really, really hope you fell better soon.

Thank you

In hope
Paulo, munich, germany

All the best to JOSH. It's kind of sad to see that even such a great musician playing in such an awesome band does not get the health care he needs (or has to pay so much for it). BSF have such a great attitude. I f i can get a ticket for the Konstanz show, I will donate some money, and I hope everyone who's passion is music will do so. Best wishes from Germany!

Posted by: Sascha at August 22, 2006 02:46 PM

Best wishes from Germany to Josh (hope he will totally recover) and BSF too...

Posted by: Flo at August 22, 2006 03:06 PM

Maybe a stupid question, but I see people writing that they're going to get a ticket for the show. Is the band still touring, with another guitarplayer? Or are all the European show cancelled? Please tell me, because if they do come, I just have to buy a ticket!!!

Hey Josh,

I hope that my donation will be enough for a sixpack of beer or whatever you feel like after you have recovered! I wish you all the best, and just to let you know, I know at least 20 people here in Colohne, Germany, who wish you all the best and who owe you and the entire band a lot!

Take care, always!

Dear Josh,
My boyfriend loves your bad and sent me the bad news about your accident. I am so sorry that you got hurt, but my friend you are very very very lucky that the damage was not more. I know you are in a lot of pain, so make sure they keep the medications flowing through your IV. It may help you write a few inspirational songs. I hope you get well soon. I wish you a speedy recovery! I also pray you have wonderful family and friends around you to help you through this difficult time. I know what it is like to go through tons of medical stuff and I couldn't get through it without my family, friends, and God. Take care.
Sincerely,

so ok...if i know how this gene merch guy looks.....i will give him something or if there will be a german account or something....
sadly not much because i am only a little student but i would really like to give josh some money to help him and i think every little dollar or euro or whatever can help...and my friend wants to give something too.

we love you josh and hope you will be good again soon.

I´m ready to make a donation right away. I live in germany and if robert would be keen on telling which account number he has got, me and a couple of others, will make a donatioon from germany.

If not I´l make the donation at the show in hamburg because I luckyly have a ticket.

I know words are short and maybe only words but I wish a staggering recording to a man who always rocked thew stage with all he has got I ve seen that man perspire on stage like a waterfall and I´ve seen him smile to us in the crowd. It is the least I can do to give a bit of that back. get well soon josh!!!!

I´m going to miss you on stage, you know you take a big part of it !! ;)

love, juan

I am way behind in the news, obviously since i am just now commenting on the situation. A guy that i met in the Jackson, MS airport informed me what happened to Josh, this guy lives in Newark, DE also. I am sorry to hear what happened since boy sets fire is one of the best bands i have ever heard, you guys have not sold out to the crap that music is becoming. I fractured one of my vert. a couple years, even though it is not as bad as Josh's accident i somewhat know what he is going through. Living in pain on a daily basis sucks and it will tend to wear you down. It is good to hear that his spirits and support system are strong, it will definitely help. I want to wish the entire band and especially Josh goodluck with everything and even though i was hoping for another show in Raleigh, NC i understand it may not happen. Thanks for everything and when my BSF tattoo is complete i will send you guys a pic.

I am writing a speech on the song "unspoken request" for my rhetorical criticism class. I am looking for additional information about the song such as the inspiration to write it, the response of the crowd when it is preformed live, etc. At shows BSF discusses political issues that relate to specific songs in-between sets (for example "when rhetoric dies"). Does anyone know if they do that for “unspoken request”? In addition I was hoping for direction to statistics regarding number of albums sold, popularity of "unspoken request", facts about their target audience and so forth. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
