thoughts from the road

update from the van. sat in a van all day fortunately got the power working again so we all have our laptops a’rocking and are happily involved in a massive jar sesh as they say. it is good to be back on the road, especially compared to the alternative which is arguing with a record company. so this is better with out a doubt. there is something magical about travelling with your best friends and even when it sucks, as it does sometimes, it is good to remind ourselves that we are very fortunate to do this. i mean yesterday we got to smash an old computer screen and shoot fireworks. does it get better than this? i submit that it does not!

so random thoughts wiggle through my mind which is numbed by a constant barrage of battle star galactica. i introduced the group to a great show called weeds which has quickly become a van favorite. i am neck deep in a show called conviction...have you heard of it? it is awesome.
so i noticed the other day as we hung out with some “normals” that our little bsf group has pretty our own language by now that most people assume is mere idiocy. while truly idiotic i would say that is not “mere” by any stretch. wubble haussen? what the heck!
some records i am looking forward to...the new bouncing souls...the new strike anywhere...underoath...the look machine’s record is out and can be checked out here...oh i thought my ipod was stolen in san franscisco but it was just lost in the van for over a week. how does that happen? we even vacuumed it out and still i couldn’t find it. then one day it just dropped into my lap, well matt found it. i am still not sure it wasn’t a prank pulled by the guys.
i miss my home and family. after this tour we have three weeks off and then back to europe and then some warped tour then festivals. yawn....
so i think i am trapped in an internet run. i check these websites every day punknews.org thelookmachine.com boysetsfire.org lambgoat.com and myspace.com/boysetsfire and then i run out of steam. is there anything else out there? prolly not huh...

the beautifull snuggle; stories from the heart of texas

so much has happened since last we talked, dear reader, i feel that our time together is too fleeting and i know it is my fault as well as yours and i will try harder to communicate. let's work on this together. maybe counseling? we will see.
so cali was awesome as always. it has been way too long since we have been out that way and i forgot how much i miss that giant state of vegetarian food, hippies, and leftist thought. thanks to all the friends who came out to support us we love you all and we will be back as soon as possible. we swear this. the festival at san diego state was awesome. talib was amazing.
after the glory that was california we entered the desert and crossed into.....texass.

the land of bush. where as were told by a vegan waitress who voted for bush "things are jes a little more conservative down here." everyone it seems has a story about the bush twins but they wouldn't tell because they thought it was not nice. our friends from austin used to party at the ranch and remembered the president coming into a room in his boxer shorts joking with the girls. awesome.
you know even though the greatest sprots franchise in history came from this state we are looking forward to leaving this place and heading into florida. thank god there aren't any bushed there right!
some cool news shaping up on both the europe front and the us touring front. but we cant talk about that right now. thanks for everyone coming out and saying hi we appreciate all of you.

random thoughts away from home...seattle

touring is a funny thing in so many ways...it's very extreme but not always in the gratifying sense, also extremly boring and extremly tyring...things you don't see watching the "wanted dead or alive" video...

but in a way, and this is only and purely speaking for myself it is the best thing ever...cause it means stealing time away from "the man" and travelling with your friends, getting a glimps of what places away from home (wherever that is for me these days...i get confused with my 4 home-towns...berlin, asbury park, munich and baltimore)are like and it means stealing time away to do things i/we really love to do...first up of course the obvious: playing together, creating the sound vibrations that make our lifes into what they are...there is so much to be said about sound and music and a internet blog would do this great topic no justice at all, but i know that be it in meditation or on stage with chad, josh, nate and matt...it can mean everything, transcend everydau BS and get you in touch with yourself and the world and that's the way it's always been and the price is small...you have to really mean it, it has to come from your heart...not just going through the motions on some random stage somewhere out-there...it also means stealing away time to watch movies you like, reading good and bad books (both is fun!) and discussing sports and spiritual life vs science in the same hour...all of this is what makes it the best thing ever...i feel blessed i am able to do this right here and right now and all of you great people showing up and making these nights far from home so meaningful should know that it means a lot to us, so thank you...no one knows what the future will bring, but does it really matter when the present feels right...i (as always) have no answers, many questions and now i need a huge vegan breakfast...be safe and have a great day...oh yeah, please listen to the new pearl jam record, since they are the living proof how to age gracefully in this filthy business...god bless em.

another all nighter? are you joking?

so last night was boise the land of potatos a place i only know of from a prior visit when we played in an art gallery and stayed at a mans house who was straight up wearing a dress. not even a very nice dress actually pretty slovenly looking. but it was a fun show and now i write to you from seattle one of my favorite cities ever. another all night drive which gordon our intrepid tour manager took most of and we are feeling the consequences. have you ever slept sitting up in a bumpy van? i didn't think so...normal people dont.

nightsounds and illness...

i type this as the heavy breathing and “night sounds” of my compatriots wash over me as i sit in cover of darkness to write this missive. we are in des moines iowa a state i personally had had very little contact with until yesterday. the show was fun, surprisingly so since it was a monday night and coupled with the fact we had never played there is was a very nice night. our friend kelly made us vegan calzones which we gobbled down like starved wolves.

the shows have been pretty good so far, the highlight being chicago so far. gene and chris lived in chicago a number of years ago and we had many friends there from years ago so it was a nice little get together. we enjoyed our night in chicago. we stayed in a hostel in the city with the most uncomfortable beds i have ever experienced. and of course had to wake at like eight o’clock which i think we all can agree is a very “non-rock” hour. bleck.
today we travel to kansas city and the el torreon, a venue famous for its unique qualities and incredibly tangled pa cables. but our friends in the esoteric will be stopping by so that should be a treat.
then denver, salt lake, wow....see you all very soon. maybe next time i will be able to think of some stories.

ps...holed up in a hotel in salt lake city. second overnight drive in a row...we are exhausted and the inimitable rakus is even feeling the effects of two nights without good sleep. denver was amazing even without the support of our friends in the fully down whose van opted not to play the show. so far these two bands versus the mirror and the fully down have been a pleasure to be with and a joy to watch play their hearts out.
does any one know how to go to alcatraz? love to visit there...
