tour diary US 2006

dear diary,

"broken down...down and out..."...while i write you these lines outside a knights inn (fitting since we consider this to be a crusade in the name of our new little record, the misery index) we're broken down for the 17th and a half time 3 days into the tour...our trailer is not our friend so far, so i'll sit down with it soon and find out why it's out of line...maybe it needs group therapy.
who knows...

so far we played cleveland and detroit and both shows were a lot of fun and i wanted to thank the nice people who came out even though even though big evil media corporations told them to see the newest emo phenomenon in eyeliner, emovers and gloves instead,,,it was awesome and i can't wait to visit more friends all over the us of a within the next 5 weeks. good times!

hey, by the way...the reason we're not playing big east coast cities (to end all speculations) on this very tour is simple:
we'll play all these cities on WARPED tour this august!!!
so see all you fine ladies and gentlemen living in those places then...check out all the dates as usual on our myspace site or right here under the street section...it'll be good sweaty fun on the smartpunk stage!!!

alright, the nice dude with the huge mullet here in monroe, MI is helping us now so we can make it to the show in Kentucky...which according to mr. ryan adams is the brother to it's sister carolina...there you go!

have a nice day and i talk to you later

wear our influences on our sleeves...

no band exists in a vacuum. as much as they might like you to think it, no band is wholly original and if they are they are probably terrible. all bands are the sum total of their influences and those that came before them that didn’t get the attention they should have.
i read interviews with bands all the time and i rarely see any of these “big” bands discuss the music they grew up listening to. the music that paved the way for them and the music that made their lives bearable.
all i see are interviews where impossibly hip musicians talk about how original they are and how they don’t belong to a “scene per se” and how they are starting something that no-one has ever tried.
uh....don’t think so. usually when they say that it, it is pretty obvious to me who they are ripping off. usually the used or gun and roses.
but it digress.
in the next few days before we leave for tour and maybe interspersed throughout the hilarious diaries entries i (and whoever wants to!) am gonna pay homage to the records that made me who i am. which is of course debatable wether that is a good thing or not.
my first choice for influences is billy by samiam.http://www.myspace.com/blackthroat

this album was introduced to me by our good friend leeroy who was the primary samiam fan in these parts. i had seen the name around but had always thought it was kinda a silly reference and thus wouldn’t really give them a chance until i was in townhouse on madison with a forty clutched in my hand and everyone sang out...

sitting in the corner i don't know what to think i can't speak i sink a little deeper with every drink i try to sleep i shut my eyes and like a leaky faucet fear floods the room the one that drips away patiently by day it was either lost or it was stolen but it's been missing for too long i woke up one morning and i couldn't see the sunrise i can't recall the exact moment now but it began some time ago and it makes me wonder after all i've done what have i got to show i'm aggravated i'm what you created now don't break me

samiam taught me melody and taught me intensity of emotion. in a more elemental musical vein, i also learned the “octave” chord from samiam and leeroy, to be specific.
check out these guys www.myspace.com/samiam
they have a new record coming out on burning heart :) and hopeless.
