these guys helped us on the record..

when this record, the Misery Index; Notes from the Plague Years, was in its infancy (it was so cute then! it had the sweetest little nose!) we decided as a band that we would be open to anything. i mean anything! as long as it made US stoked, it went on the record.

so when the idea of drew copeland playing on the record came up, it was greeted with a friendly, "well, i guess i would like to hear that." oh yeah, because drew plays horns! and everyone knows that horns are ska and ska is for idiots. but we had to try it.fortunately drew did such a good job that not only did he play on the record, he appears on two songs! drew played on deja coup and so long and thanks for the crutches. he also plays bass for the look machine, who have a record coming out in early summer. check them out at thelookmachine.com.

we also had darby dinatel in to play piano. she played on nostalgic for guillotines, so long and thanks for the crutches and another song. darby is an accomplished singer/songwriter in her own right. she is an extremely talented woman and has a pleasant blog and you can download her songs and read interesting anecdotes about her life and stuff. chad and josh played on the recordings and helped in the studio as well. she can be checked out at darbydinatale.com.

and of course we had elyse mitchell in to play cello on nostalgic for guillotines, falling out theme, and betweeners. she did an awesome job and you can hear her very tiredly ask nick rotundo a question right before the beginning of nostalgic. she worked really hard and she sounds great.

nick rotundo played upright bass in the our “jazz combo” preceding so long and thanks for the crutches. he studied jazz for years and you can totally tell.

all these guys did us a huge a favor by agreeing to play on our little record and we really appreciate it greatly. please check out their websites and let them know what you think.

So I checked out this "look machine" you spoke of...yea I don't know about those guys.

that's what's at the beginning of nostalgic!

Oh yes!

I've heard of the look machine before... they're also on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/thelookmachine
They sound pretty good!

i heard that the look machiners are all related to one another, a bunch of in bred mountain red neck, kissing cousin, hicks.

horns and pianoes and celloes.....oh that frightens me, being a narrowminded punkrocker....

Posted by: Andy at February 8, 2006 04:44 PM

Fear not 'narrowminded punkrocker' as a musical authority, the new cd has received both my approval and highest recommendation. If you dislike the cd, clearly the problem is with you and not the cd.

Hornplayers blow.

Posted by: Dick Ronkulous at February 9, 2006 12:10 AM

Literally

They suck 110%

It's their best album yet. Worry not. They use all these various instruments in exactly the right way. in fact, I think the song that features the ENGLISH HORN is their most punk song ever.

Posted by: jason at February 9, 2006 11:54 AM

Indeed those intruments did rock the album. It's just good to know that every sound on it was hand-made. :) That's what counts.

Posted by: Mikhail at February 9, 2006 04:57 PM

The English Horn is not even a horn. 'Tis a reeded instrument.

Neanderthals.

Good old Nick Rotundo. He's a good man. Does he still look like he could be Grizzly Adams' "Mini-Me"? I love that dude. He recorded my band Arcacia and did a marvelous job. Do any of you guys live in Cecil County? I've been stomping around there for a few years now (unfortunately) and was wondering about that. If you feel so inclined, email me. Oh.. and to Nathan, STEELERS!!!! Ryan from Burnin' Thousands/My Body My Blood said you guys watch Steelers games all the time. I'm a rambling idiot... Good luck with the new record. I'm sure its awesome.

Actually, this Grizzly Adams looks a whole lot like Chad Istvan.
