what happened last night?
the back of the neck is throbbing. lower back aching as i twist my legs and slowly fight my way to consciousness. my wrists are sore, voice hoarse beyond belief. my lip i just ever so slightly bloodied. i am exhausted even though i just slept. my thoughts are hazy, i am dazed and confused in the most literal sense of the phrase. what the heck happened? oh yeah, we must have played a show in west chester, pennsylvania!
a blast was had by all last night at good old rex’s where we played a pretty insane show to many of our friends. all the bands were great saturday night. the ratchets played an enjoyable set of clash influenced rock which really excited robert and myself, not to mention the throngs of eager music and beer fans which showed up to check out all the bands. the ratchets are from new jersey and you can check them out here.
next up were blackthroat an am-rep style band from good ol’ delaware. me and matt are big fans of these guys and actually have nicknamed ourselves the blackheads (my idea, pretty funny huh!) they didn’t play long enough though. they have an album coming out in april put out by good old scott wasserman, a local legend.
one broken ankle, one broken head, three broken bottles and dozens of bruised shins? oh that must be all else failed from the philly area who were definitely awesome. they killed it as always. we have been playing with these guys since way back. i remember watching them ripping shirts off each other as they played. (hmmm, as i type this it seems a little homo-erotic, but it wasn’t, i don’t think?)
then we played, not getting on stage until nearly one in the morning. i gotta say, it was really fun playing. we played a decently long set, even throwing in in hope due to requests.
thanks to mellisa carney for promoting this show, thanks to rex’s for letting us play, and thanks to everyone who came out and supported us. it was a blast. a ver special thanks to father jim, of course. i guess he is not mike because he lost his shirt.
sorry to anyone who couldn’t get in. please purchase tickets to the northstar bar. you can buy them by here. see you all next sunday at seven! should be a blast.

updates, finally! what the heck, man?
so here we go finally an update, or the State of the BSF Union Address as we shall now call it. (did anyone watch that idiot the other night? our president? i wish i could give an informed opinion but i can’t even watch him on the tv any more. i have a visceral reaction that manifests in nausea. i would rather watch battlestar galactica anyday than wach that moron blather on. to be honest i would rather watch battlestar over nearly anything. i like how he said we need to ween ourselves off oil. i got something he needs to ween himself off of. where was I? oh yeah.
bad news first. the record in america has pushed back to a march 21st release date due to an extremely unfortunate pressing mistake. this bums us out and i am sure america feels like we like her even less but i swear it is not our fault. we still love you america! kisses......
now onto the good news! the first pressing of the cd WILL include the dvd we taped in Koln Germany. we are glad that this is happening because we think the dvd is pretty cool and want as many people as possible to watch it. and it is a mildly disguised attempt to get people to buy the thing as opposed to downloading it. but no-one would download an entire record right?
we will however have the cd for sale on march 5 in philadelphia at the north star bar. this is your chance to get the record with the dvd an entire two weeks before anyone else, which is kinda cool. we are playing the show with pissnvinegar, the look machine, and blackthroat. this is a small club and they will only sell two hundred and eighty tickets, so you wanna buy them soon. click here to buy tickets. we would love all of our friends to come to this. this is all ages.
we are also playing a show in west chester pennsylvania at our favorite bar rex’s on the 25th of february. this is a 21 plus show with the rackets, blackthroat, and all else failed, who i am frickin stoked to see. this should be a blast especially since our boys Rakus and Gene are planning a drinking contest with shots of jaegar and guiness. the first to get too drunk to work wins. the contest is one horrendous headache the next day. my money is on gene.
the us tour is nearly confirmed. we are touring with versus the mirror and the fully down, with one more to be announced very soon. we will post those dates as soon as we get them. we have also been added to the warped tour smartpunk stage which will be a blast, especially since emery is playing and chad and toby are very close.
there is an awesome interview up over at punknews.org it is very cool.
guess that’s it! thanks so much for everything and see you soon....the bsf...

reviews reviews.....
reviews are a funny part of any bands life. ask anyone in a band what they think of reviews and they are likely to simply laugh it off and say they don’t give a shit what the hell reviewers say. most likely frustrated musicians anyways! that likely means that they get bad reviews. actually any band when they are being honest would say they do care about reviews.
if you’ve read our bio, you can skip this next part. our first review came from our second demo tape, which was called premonition, change, revolt. we sent the demo airmail to california to the new hot zine called heartattack which was done by the same people that did the label ebullition records which had put out some of our favorite records. we sent the demo away and nervously awaited the review. imagine our shock and disappointment when the reviewer wrote, “imagine neil sedaka fronting a gothic rock crap band.” we were crushed. even though we didn’t care what the damn reviewer had to say. he probably was a frustrated musician anyway. what the hell does he know, anyway?
so anyway we got some early reviews of the new record. the first one is pretty cool.
Aaron Is Trying to Find What's So Interesting about: BoySetsFire - The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years

Having not always been a Boysetsfire fan, it took me a while to get into their music and just how good of a band these guys are. The Delaware five-piece hasn't had an easy 10 years in the business. Their previous effort Tomorrow Comes Today was good and was completely overlooked by Wind-Up Records. Finally, the band has landed on a solid label that has the same ideals these guys have. Equal Vision gives Boysetsfire an outlet to reach their best target market possible. The new album is nothing short of amazing. It has been on repeat for the last few days and it's definitely a beautiful record. Crafted with a very rock feel to it but definitely not leaving their more hardcore roots, this album contains 13 tracks of some of the most memorable ballads in some time. The album as a whole should be one of my favorites to come, as it has a little bit of everything; don't miss the song with the trumpets.
pretty cool huh? that comes from www.decoymusic.com. this next one is one of my favorites ever.

Boysetsfire - The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years
Burning Heart 2006
Christian post-hardcore? Previously on Creed's own Wind Up Records? The only thing that could make Boysetsfire any less appealing would be a concept album about diarrhoea. This isn't even the metallic vocal savagery of Underoath but the old fashioned melodic Strongarm variety we all thought died when ‘screamo' did its funky-chicken strut all over MTV way back in 2001.
Past encounters with Boysetsfire have produced a Pavlovian reaction that manifests itself as the repeated pounding of my own head against ash-trays, pint glasses and fire extinguishers until a satisfying bloody pulp with two squishy fried eggs of eyeballs are all that remain. Frankly it was weak, jangly wet-trouser rubbish, and I couldn't stomach that even at the height of my indiscriminate thirst for melodic hardcore.
Unsurprisingly ‘The Misery Index' contains a fair bit of irritating adolescent crap and ham-fisted progression, but what shocks me like a rapist in the shower is that the majority of ‘The Misery Index: Notes From The Plague Years' is made up of fiendishly catchy, robust little numbers that have you singing along and pounding your chest with cathartic enthusiasm. ‘Walk Away', ‘The Misery Index', ‘Empire', ‘Social Register Fanclub' and ‘With Cold Eyes' are burning at an intensity they've never reached before.
It's powerful stuff and knowing their full capability only goes to make the past mediocrity seem all the more unforgivable as Boysetsfire finally ignites in a blaze of glory.
awesome huh? that one comes from www.montagpress.co.uk cool?

these guys helped us on the record..
when this record, the Misery Index; Notes from the Plague Years, was in its infancy (it was so cute then! it had the sweetest little nose!) we decided as a band that we would be open to anything. i mean anything! as long as it made US stoked, it went on the record.
so when the idea of drew copeland playing on the record came up, it was greeted with a friendly, "well, i guess i would like to hear that." oh yeah, because drew plays horns! and everyone knows that horns are ska and ska is for idiots. but we had to try it.fortunately drew did such a good job that not only did he play on the record, he appears on two songs! drew played on deja coup and so long and thanks for the crutches. he also plays bass for the look machine, who have a record coming out in early summer. check them out at thelookmachine.com.
we also had darby dinatel in to play piano. she played on nostalgic for guillotines, so long and thanks for the crutches and another song. darby is an accomplished singer/songwriter in her own right. she is an extremely talented woman and has a pleasant blog and you can download her songs and read interesting anecdotes about her life and stuff. chad and josh played on the recordings and helped in the studio as well. she can be checked out at darbydinatale.com.
and of course we had elyse mitchell in to play cello on nostalgic for guillotines, falling out theme, and betweeners. she did an awesome job and you can hear her very tiredly ask nick rotundo a question right before the beginning of nostalgic. she worked really hard and she sounds great.
nick rotundo played upright bass in the our “jazz combo” preceding so long and thanks for the crutches. he studied jazz for years and you can totally tell.
all these guys did us a huge a favor by agreeing to play on our little record and we really appreciate it greatly. please check out their websites and let them know what you think.
