lancaster, new jersey connecitut (i can never spell that state!)

well tonight was pretty awesome playing in our favorite amish outlet city in the world Lancaster. as always it was great playing with our good friends and hanging out with all of our newark friends and west chester friends and everyone else who were subjected to the barrage of noise we call boysetsfire.

so where to start? lemme see so baltimore was very nice always good to get into the northeast corridor with all our friends coming out to the show. it was the first show that our friend joey broderick didn’t have to be carried out of and actually got to see us play which i thought was cool.
so then it was new jersey. i am at a little bit of a loss to describe what exactly happened in new jersey but with out too much detail it is suffice to say that there was a band there who viewed hardcore one way and we didn’t exactly agree with them. they got their chance to speak for a complete half an hour, then we got our chance to say where we disagreed with them. we believe their is no room for violence homophobia or sexism in the scene and said so. they may think differently and in fact do and you can check everything out on our equal message board where we get threatened physically. oh well...can’t please them all, huh.
we would like take this few seconds to really thank all the friends we made on tour FATA, the esoteric, and biology plus all the friends we made and caught up with again. it was a great tour.
and now it is on to a week with the fall of troy and the sleeping. should be a blast! even though we are traveling in the frozen tundra of north america...burrrr.....cant wait to see shai hulud and converge and all the great bands in poughkeepsie. see ya...

i was at the nj show. i didnt hear exactly what the other band said. i had the flu that day. so i decided to come later. so i didnt have to be on my feet all night, got there right after that band was done. the new message board does kinda suck cuz that one bands fans came on just to bash bsf and their fans. come post on there when you guys get some time.

I was at your November 12th concert. In Seyerville, NJ. I was really excited before I even got there since after 5 years of being a really big fan my cousin got tickets for the show as a birthday gift. I enjoyed the show very much, and I was probably one of the 300 kids on the way out the front door with you guys. Then again I understood why security stopped it. I don't think having 20 beaten outside a concert would go over too well, but it doesn't mean they didn't deserve it. Thank you all for making me proud of the one band I have loved for so long. I hope to see another concert of yours in the future.

first of all if 300 kids came out, 150 of them would have turned around after the first punch was thrown. there is a pretty good chance from what ive seen and heard, that those 20 kids would have held there ground pretty well not saying any group of 20 people is going to defeat 150, but it wouldnt have been your average 20 kids. not to mention boy sets fire claimed how they could handle it themselves but needed those extra 300 kids and a maglight to help them fight 20 kids. funny how they couldnt come out the back door where everyone was waiting and where they knew everyone was waiting. the cops came and those 20 kids were forced to leave. they didnt leave by choice. i was there for Years Spent Colds full set and not once did they preach or say anything in the way of sexuality or anything directed towards boy sets fire. nor did they say how hardcore should be. just my opinion on the situation

yeah so i was at your show at the tribecca rock club in manhattan. needless to say i enjoyed it very much, although the crowd kinda sucked and was not too into it. it also seemed as if you guys were not as into playing the show as i have seen you guys before. maybe you guys were tired, i dont know. well either way i was at the front the entire time rockin out. cant wait for the new cd.

for those who want to know, here is an account sent to me of the night in NJ. by a person who was there:

The first band, chiba-ken, came on and played with no problems what so ever. Then Year Spent Cold came out. They played their unique brand of hardcore/metal. During their set their vocalist made comments about raping the families of gay people on more than one occasion. I counted around nine fights that broke out while they were playing. Not once did the band stop to address this. They told people to tear shit apart, cause I guess maybe the fights weren't enough. I watched people who were protecting themself from being hit getting turned on and attack by a group of kids. Many fights resulted in the person that was protecting themself getting dragged by security instead of the person actually responsible. We tried to inform one of the bouncers up front that some of the wrong people were getting dragged out and he said he knew and was trying to get that fixed. To my knowledge, the person I was trying to point out never got thrown out. The next few bands went on without any real problems in the crowd. No one in any band has addressed the fights that broke out either. When BSF took the stage before they played Nathan grabbed the mic and said a few things that needed to be said. Now this is a loose quote but same point in case, " I want to say a few things that no one has so far, I want to thank the first band chiba-ken for playing. The second band, what was their name (he looks at a peice of paper) Year Spent Cold, fuck you." That part is actually pretty dead on to what he said. But he went on to say that inciting violence and homophobic values weren't going to fly and that because 15 bullies were starting shit with everyone, didn't mean we all had to take it. "This is your scene, fucking take it back." And I agree with him, shit like this has gone on too long without anyone addressing it. A few songs into the set someone pulled Nathan and Josh aside and I guess informed them there was a small crowd of about 20 people waiting for them outside to fight them. Nathan responsed with, if they wanted them out front after their set then that's what they would get, they weren't going to stand by and take their shit. Heh, he said he was 33 years old and didn't need some 18 year old preaching violence and homophobia to tell him to tear a club apart. Nathan encouraged anyone who was tired of putting up with the shit at shows to join them out front. He said that they were nothing more than highschool bullies that had to be dealt with straight up. After the set Nathan climb into the crowd and started to make his way to the front. There was a large crowd moving towards the front, not "15 people up front who supported bsf" as one of the posts would have you believe. But from the best I could see Nathan was pulled back by security and they weren't really letting people out the front enterance. After that, I'm not too sure of the happenings. So, there ya have it. Maybe it wasn't the perfect way to handle it, but I still think something needed to be said and I'm glad it was.

Just curious guys, any idea what time you hit the stage on the 19th?

Not sure if I can be there for the whole venue, but need to make sure I'm there for BSF

i know someone who has a video of the show. there was never a comment made about raping gay peoples families nor was there any kind of comment made toward any group of gay people. the words "tear this place up" were never said. the one comment made was "persons name, i will rape your family" and that was directed toward a kid in the crowd that the vocalist is good friends with. end of story hahahhah boy sets fire is a joke. boy sets fire would have lost miserably. the fact that nathan went out the front door is funny. every band goes out the back, why would he go out the front. he must have felt safe with security around. good luck playing shows in jersey

jersey sucks balls

Posted by: hakeem at November 18, 2005 02:02 AM

boy sets fire is fucking dumb as shit and has lost all respect from many people that actually liked them before that show. his statements about ysc being sexist was made bc of the cover art on there cd. if the faggot(yes i said faggot if you dont like it eat shit) would of taken the time to aks someone wat it meant instead of assuming it was encouraging the degradation of women he would of found out that it was based off a scene from friday the 13th. and those whom are saying ysc didnt do anythign to stop the fights? what the fuck did you expect them to do? stop playing? they could of said somethign but theyre smart enough to know that them saying stop fighting is not going to stop kids from fighting especially when half the kids we beat up got beat up for taking swings at girls. also the comment kutz made to his friend stating im going to rape your mother, if the person it was said to did not take offence than neither should anyone else. bsf and the rest of you faggots need to change your tampons and get a senseof humor and stop worrying so much about what people are joking around about with there friends. and if bsf is so much against violence than why did they try to provoke evenm more violence by calling ysc out to fight? bsf is a bunch of faggots who used to be a band you could respect for taking a stand on real issues but not have let there music become so commercialised for the mainstream so they could get a nice tour bus and some cash. fuck them ., fuck you . stay the fuck out of new jersey you pieces of shit. i will rape your first born.

o yea and instead of getting up on stage and talkign all thsi shit they should of said something ysc face to face. kutz and the rest of ysc have NEVER gotten on stage and bad mouthed or disrespected any other band they have played with no matter how bad they sucked. nathan jus wants to be a rock star well he can eat dick and die.

I love you all. I wasn't at the NJ show this time around but I can't imagine you guys doing anything not called for.

Posted by: Jedi Jasmine at November 19, 2005 12:12 PM

I saw you guy at toads in connecticut (you can remember how to spell it connect-i-cut). You guys were really good and I just wanted to say that. Happy Thanksgiving!

duh to all the stupid tough guys that post here about bsf not being welcome in jersey. that's not for you to say. i was at the jersey show. ysc sucked as a band anyway. venue killer? duh. halfway into their set i said to my friends, these guys are a bunch of fake ass tough guys. they brought the whole loud ass white trash family and posse with them, fucking shit up in the bar and ruining it for other people. then they talked all that shit and while i didn't hear anyone say anything about raping people, i did hear them say faggot and fags this and that a bunch of time. i hate those words. so i was turned off regardless. i thought it rocked that nate had the balls that no one else did to say something about that retardation of ysc. and to the people who think nate called on the fans because he needed to..do you think there was anyway in hell mad people weren't going out regardless of if he said so?? and to the kid who said nate should have said somtething to the other band themselves. what do you call calling them out in a crowd??

Posted by: this bitch at November 24, 2005 04:03 PM

by the way it's connecticut like connect i cut, that's how i remember it. happy thanksgiving!

Posted by: this bitch at November 24, 2005 04:09 PM

I made the YSC artwork. In no way was i attempting to express any sort violence against women or any sort of homophobic values. With that said, yeh it seems YSC and BSF have a disagreement with what HC is or whatever. Thats for them to argue i guess.

The point of the matter is, don't make assumptions about me when you don't know me. Thats just as ignorant as embraceing stereotypes about a group of people or social movement. I don't agree with some of the language that has been accepted by society and I'd love it if it was changed and through awareness (not violence) it will. I don't agree with what BSF did, you guys really could have come talked to me and probably anyone else there with YSC. Whatever crap happened in the bar had nothing to do with me or anyone else there.

After revieweing the set I didn't see YSC making any statements against BSF or any statements about homosexuals or women. Starland has hired security who are trained to deal with fights and nothing that happened at that show is any worse than when bands like Hatebreed or Madball play there. YSC was asked to play by the booker and the booker knew what kind of band they were.

anyway, my e-mail is attached with this so if someone actually wants to talk about it instead of slandering me some more then I'll do that.
